Good Friday morning. This is Fishers Digest, the local newsletter that is so super serious. I got too many comments about how fun, easy to read, and enjoyable this newsletter is. So no more monkey business.

The Digest
WHAT IN THE JUMANJI 🐒
One big thing: Indiana is one of the few states where it is no problem to own a monkey. And one got loose this week.
On Wednesday night, IMPD posted on X (Twitter) that there was a monkey on the loose on the east side of Indy. It turned into a full-on monkeyhunt, and a few locals reported some interesting things:
“It ran up at my garage, pinned me against the door, and I had to take a stool and put it between me and the monkey to kind of dodge the monkey away until I got into the house,”

Momo (the monkey’s name) was safely caught Thursday am 👏 Here’s a photo circulating of MoMo during his great adventure.
Exotic animal law in Indiana
Monkeys are legal to own in Indiana. They are not on the list of exotic animals you need a permit for. Most states typically have rules for owning them. To name a few reasons: they’re smart, they can share diseases with humans, and they are known to attack strangers. Oof. Here are even crazier animals that are perfectly legal to own:
- Bears (any kind)
- Wolves
- Tigers
- Crocodiles
- Squirrels (many types, including the flying kind (editors note: WTF 🤣)
- Beavers
- And more

Weekend Preview
It’s Christmas in October! Join the craft fair to support the Fishers Tiger Band on their mission to play at the Macy’s Day Parade. Over 135 vendors will face a jury in a friendly competition. Happens Saturday. Learn more.
Potters Bridge Festival The Farmers Market is gone. I can’t fix that. But fear not — Potter’s Bridge Festival is here! Enjoy a day of live music, food booths, arts, crafts, and more. Happens Saturday at… Potter’s Bridge. 11 am – 5 pm. Free.
OktoberFest is on in Carmel for humans. Live Music, food, games, you know the drill. Except of course it’s all german centered. 6 – 10 pm at the Carmel City Center.
Barktoberfest is on in Westfield for dogs 😂 Bring your furry friend in their Halloween costume to participate in the contest. There will be an agility course and lots of vendors. Don’t have a furry friend yet? Come adopt one! Learn more.

Community Alert
We do our best to avoid news that might be too controversial or dark. But I want to commit to keeping you informed: the 2018 Noblesville middle school shooter has been released to his home in Fishers, near FHS. Juvenile law left prosecutors with few options. Many families, children, and friends were hurt by this incident. Here are some community resources available to you if you need them.
