As of publishing, seven total pages of volunteering opportunities are available for sign-up. The options are bountiful, and include work like

Deep dive

One upcoming local favorite is the Geist Half Marathon. This year, Fishers promises to reimagine with a focus on participants, volunteers, and community experiences.

It’s hard to say what this means. But since the city has been heavily promoting the need for volunteers, let’s look at what’s available.

  • Course Marshall
  • Volunteer Coordinator Assistant Volunteer
  • Bike Teams Volunteer
  • Start Line/Runner Services Volunteer
  • Runner Services Volunteer
  • Back of the Pack Volunteer
  • Gear Check Volunteer
  • Packet Pickup Volunteer

Being a bike runner sounds fantastic — here’s the job description;

“Volunteers will ride in front of the lead runners to let course staff know they're on their way and lead them to the finish line. No advance training required. Volunteers will be given all information they need when they check in with a race leader. Bike Team volunteers must provide their own bike.”

If physical activity isn’t your thing, a packet pickup volunteer sounds fun — especially if you’re social. There are no AM opportunities, but plenty are left midday – evening times.

Get started

To start, visit the Volunteer Fishers dashboard and search for what you like. Fishers has developed a job board. It includes:

  • The opportunity,
  • The organization it supports,
  • The hours asked for, and
  • How to apply

P.S. – Don’t forget to share this with a local student looking to build community hours. I wish a dashboard like this were available in my time!
