The Farmers Market is so back

PLUS: Fixing a diet weed problem, live music lists, and construction report

Good Tuesday Morning. This is Fishers Digest. Did everyone see that sunset last night? Perfect way to close out April 🌆

☀️ Today’s weather: Sunny, with a high near 74°.

In today’s digest:

  • What to do with live music lists?
  • Mayor’s Academy solves a tough problem
  • The Farmers Market is back
  • Construction report

This issue is 1,387 words, a 4.5-minute read.

The Digest

What should I do with your live music lists?

TLDR: Please help me decide what to do with the Fishers Digest live music list by voting in the poll below.

I make the live music list monthly, which takes a few hours to curate. The spreadsheet I use took 16 hours of super boring work — scrolling every bar, tavern, and entertainment venue in a 30-mile radius using Google Maps 😂

There was an oopsie halfway through April that I deemed not worth the time to go back and fix. That’s why I stopped posting them.

So now I’m evaluating what to do next with the list. I would love your help in deciding!

Solving the problem of “diet weed” 🍃

The Mayor’s Academy is a new school program that tasks our best local students with big problems. Winning presenters at the 4/15 City Council meeting suggested a solution to help halt Delta-8 from getting into the hands of minors, without outright banning it (bravo for learning prohibition history!).

If you are or have a student in FHS or HSE interested in this program, where you’ll get to help tackle tough problems like this one — registration is open until June 28th.

🛫 MIRA Award Winners

Last Friday was the biggest award ceremony in Indiana tech. Many Fishers-based businesses were nominated for awards, but only one stood out: Pierce Aerospace.

They won the Tech Innovation Team of the Year. The judges described the company as “a prime example of how a small Hoosier team can make a national impact.” But what exactly do they do?

License plates for drones. The FAA requires certain drones to have a tracker on them to help identify what’s where. I have to agree with the judges on this one — a simple mission statement solving a big problem. And it’s super cool that they’re backed by the US Air Force, the State of Indiana, and Techstars. Congrats to you for winning!

The Happenings

Back-to-back holidays 📆

Okay, only one of these is actually a holiday, but still iconic:

> May the fourth be with you this Saturday
> Cinco de Mayo is this Sunday

Goodbye winter, hello summer 😍 🍎

Dig out your market bags. The Fishers Farmers Market officially starts Saturday, May 4th. It will take place from 8-12 on (most) Saturdays at the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater now through September. It’s also one of the only dog-friendly markets in the area. Bring the whole fam!

If you missed the opening of the Piazza Geist Market last weekend, well, you missed out. Steaks, veggies, jams, and the most lovely bouquets of peonies you ever did see. Don’t worry — they’ll be back May 11th.

Walk a llama 🦙

Join Hamilton County Llamas at their first Walk-A-Llama event at Tractor Supply Co in Noblesville! Under the guidance of one of their youth members, you can walk a llama through a short obstacle course. Neat!

There is no fee, but donations are appreciated. They are a 501c3 nonprofit organization. All funds raised go towards caring for the herd of 60+ llamas.

Your civic duty 🧑‍⚖️

Don’t forget! Early voting is at Billericay Park and the Holland Park building on May 1st – 4th. Here is the timeline for the big dates to know.

  • April 9 to May 6 — Early voting
  • May 7 — Primary Election Day
  • Oct 7 — Deadline to register to vote and update info for general election
  • Nov 5 — General Election Voting Day

Local Business

I Tre Mori review🍕

I Tre Mori Pizza Picantissima

This place is constantly recommended to me. I’d say over 10 people have suggested it over the past year. I finally had a chance to try it. Here’s the review:

> It lived up to the hype. I feel pretty confident saying this is probably the best pizza you can get in a Fishers zip code. It has a thin carriage and thick crust (the perfect combo) and is wood-fired in an imported Italian oven. We tried three of their flavor combos — and every one of them was a hit.

I envy any of you who are close to the Nickel Plate Trail and able to walk or quickly get there. It’s super fire and worth every bit 🔥

🫶 National Small Business Week

This week is National Small Business Week. It’s a week to celebrate America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners who help make our communities what they are today. Here’s a few of our favorites to support:

  • Geist Coffee (OK, but have you tried their latte flight yet?)
  • BluePeppermint Boutique — a great spot to start shopping for that special mom in your life. Wink, wink, nudge.
  • Kincaid’s Meat Market. A carnivore’s paradise.
  • Cortona’s Italian is technically Fortville, but the most authentic experience you’ll have near here
  • Wasson’s Nursery is where we get our spring plants every year. They rock!

🫵 Who are your favorite local small businesses? Reply to this email and they’ll get featured in Friday’s issue!

Construction This Week

There is nothing new this week, so here are a few tips and notes for this week.

If you missed it last week, 141st/SR 37 is moving forward. They plan to wait until Allisonville Road opens on 146th to prevent traffic armageddon.
