The Digest

Make48 kicks off today

Make48 will hold its two-day invention competition at Fishers Maker Playground (Hub & Spoke) from May 3 to 5. The coolest part? It will be televised!

This year’s theme is agriculture education. Local FAA teams will construct a prototype, create a sales sheet, produce a marketing video, and pitch a new invention to a panel of judges within 48 hours.

Winners of these competitions feed into national ones, with a Fishers family recently making it to one in 2022. Good luck to all the participants!

Congrats Maverick 🐕‍🦺

Congrats are in order for local officer K9 Maverick. The 9-year-old Shepherd/ Malinois mix is retiring after serving Indiana for 8 years alongside Sgt. Susan Rinschler. Most notably, he assisted local police in the 2018 confiscation of over $135,000 in illegal drug proceeds hidden in a traveling car.

Mav, we hope you enjoy some downtime, extra treats, and belly rubs!

Build More, Spend Less, Save the Planet 🌿*

Brickdroplogo

Our story starts in 2022 when our founder Jaki decides to take action on a hobby many of us all know and love.

Lego.

Let’s face it. Lego is expensive. And odds are, once your kid has built it, they’re moving on to the next thing.

This is where Jaki’s idea to help her local community with Lego rentals comes into play. You can enjoy high-end sets without the heartache of forking over the cash for them. Shipping is free, and every plan gets a generous missing piece allowance so you don’t have to worry about that piece that rolls under the fridge.

If you’re interested, your next Lego adventure is just a click away at Brick Drop.co. Use code FISHERS20 for 20% off any plan for your first 2 months.

Weekend preview 📆

ICYMI from Tuesday’s issue, these are all this weekend:
> The Farmers Market
> LLama Walk in Noblesville
> Julius Caesar is now live at Phoenix Theatre

Agripark is open for the season 🌳

The closest thing we’ve got to a farm in your backyard is the Agripark. The fields, greenhouse, high tunnel, nature trail, sensory garden, farm animals, and playground are all officially open to the public again. Everything is free for you to use!

And much of it is run by volunteers. If you’re looking to build your volunteer portfolio, here are the current openings (only a few left, they are very popular):

Farm Helper — Feed, water, and tend to livestock.

Field Guide — Share your knowledge and guide residents on picking produce, what to look for while you’re there, and more.

Guest Services — Greet families, answer any questions, hand out produce.

Here’s the address if you plan to go: 11171 Florida Rd, Fortville, IN 46040.

What do I need to know for the Indy 500?

The Month of May is back 🏎️ If you’re looking for the rundown on the biggest 500 events to keep track of, this is your list:

May the 4th be with you 🛰️

May 4th drinks from School House 7 Cafe

Here’s how to celebrate Star Wars Day:

  • School House 7 Cafe’s got you covered for drinks
  • Books and Brews is hosting Star Wars Trivia Saturday night
  • There is a kids lightsaber battle in Noblesville
  • Once Upon a Child on 96th is dropping Star Wars and Disney gear

Cinco de Mayo 🇲🇽

What you’re celebrating: A holiday commemorating the Mexican army’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, during the Franco-Mexican War.

It’s also an unofficial drinking holiday! Our pick for that is Casa Santa. They just opened up on the edge of Fishers in Noblesville. Their tequila list is extensive 😍 Besides going to a local venue, here’s a fun way to celebrate:

> All aboard the Cinco de Mayo Express! No, you’re not dreaming. There actually is a train dedicated to eating chips and queso. On May 4 and 5, you can ride the historic Nickel Plate Express for 90 minutes to celebrate the occasion. Tequila is also included.

Coming soon 🔜

Like dogs and wine? The 16th annual Wine, Wags & Whiskers event to benefit the Humane Society for Hamilton County will take place on June 8 from 6-9PM. There will be a silent auction and wine provided by Vino Indiana. You will probably also find a few furry friends there too.

Last week’s recap

Here’s what readers clicked the most last week 🏆️

Local Business

Crave cookies 🍪

Cravecookies

Do you delight in decadent, soft-baked cookies? If so, you need to head to Crave, whose downtown Fishers location debuted their cookies and fizzy sodas last week. I tried the Twix, the Chocolate Chip, and the Caramelita (fav). I see you drooling.

Every Friday Crave launches a new lineup of cookies. Wash it all down with a customized soda by adding a flavor, a cream, or fruit puree.

Some of you may be say, hmf, sounds like Crumbl. And they are similar. But they prooobably aren’t going to be putting Crumbl out of business, seeing as according to the franchise owner, Crumbl in Fishers is the #1 selling Crumbl in America. 😮 And, really, who is mad about more cookies?

Going electric 🚲️

The Indiana Pacer’s Bikeshare program will launch 325 additional e-bikes on May 9 at Bicentennial Unity Plaza. The program started in 2014 with 25 stations along the Indianapolis Cultural Trail. Thanks to the Herbert Simon Family Foundation, the City of Indianapolis, and Pacers Sports & Entertainment, Fisher’s residents will now have even more opportunity to pedal (or not pedal😉) on our 4,119 miles of local trails.

Thanks!
